3 Ways to Design a Lifestyle of Faith

3 ways to design a lifestyle of faith mrsdesigns.net 2.jpg

Here at MRS designs we talk a lot about lifestyle. Specifically a lifestyle of faith. We're all busy designing a lifestyle. Whether it's focused on faith or not. What comes to mind with the word lifestyle? What does it even mean? Here’s what I found. Lifestyle according to the dictionary means - the habits, attitudes, tastes, moral standards, economic level, etc., that together constitute the mode of living of an individual or group; typical way of life.

Let me ask you a question.

If someone who knows you was asked to describe your lifestyle from their perspective, what do you think would be said?

Would it be a different answer from the people you work with than it would be from those you go to church with? What about a family member’s answer?

It seems that the discussion of lifestyle has been coming up lately from everywhere I turn. Let me share with you the three main reasons why I believe the discusssion of lifestyle is important and how you can design that lifestyle for yourself.

Why is the discussion of lifestyle so important?

1.     Lifestyle is important because There’s a war going on all around us.

We recently had a discussion in Sunday school about spiritual warfare. It was good stuff. I don't like to get all weird about these kinds of discussions, but I do want to point out that we don't take them seriously. In fact, I think we try to pretend that this isn't a reality for the child of God. Especially since we don't see anything with our physical eyes. There is an enemy out to destroy us dear one. He'd like nothing more than to rip us to shreds. My point is our lifestyles are important because there is a war going on. If your lifestyle doesn't consist of daily prayer and time in the Bible you are not equipping yourself for battle. There is a battle whether we choose to recognize it or not.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:10-12

How do i apply this to designing my lifestyle of faith?

Choose to set aside time every single day to pray and read/study your Bible. It's imperative.

2.     Lifestyle is important because We’ve been charged with walking worthy of Christ.

Let me ask again, how is your walk [lifestyle]? How about another question we could ask ourselves throughout the day. Is what I'm doing...saying...looking at...thinking about...eating...honoring Christ? If He would right here with me, would I be embarrassed? Would I feel the need to justify myself?

So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:10

How do i apply this to designing my lifestyle of faith?

Pause - - - Pray - - - Think - - - Breathe. If we would make the habit to slow down and be intentional about what we consume with all our senses we will be well on our way to walking worthy of the Lord.

3.      Lifestyle is important because Our lives are a mission.

The connection groups at our chuch are all currently doing the same study. Life on Mission. It's a few years old so you may have heard of it or even taken part in it. I love how it opens up with the verse in Acts 1:8. It talks about being witnesses both in Jerusalem (which is where they were) in all Judea and Samaria. This is where the people hearing this lived. In essence the verse is saying be witnesses right where you live. As Christians we are called to be the salt of the earth.

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Mark 16:15

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8

How do i apply this to designing my lifestyle of faith?

Understanding that everything is not about us helps us get our eyes off ourselves and onto our mission - other people.

When it comes to lifestyle...

What are your habits, attitudes, standards...what's your typical day look like? What's your lifestyle?

I'm currently reading Adorned by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. It is packed full of so many gems. I'll be writing a more in depth post about this book, but I'm telling you it's worth your time. Titus 2 is so jam packed with so much goodness and she unpacks it so beautifully. At this point, my overall takeaway is without question the subject for today and everyday for that matter - lifestyle. We must include Jesus in all of it. Every nook. Every cranny. Everywhere in everything.
