How to Face the Curve Balls of Life
I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world. John 16:33
Have you ever had a curve ball thrown at you? I'm speaking figuratively here. Has life just taken a sudden turn and out of nowhere this curve ball comes flying in at 100 mph? I imagine we can all say that yes, at some point in my life I've looked up and I'm faced with this curve ball sailing toward me at an unstoppable speed. There's no time to dodge it. There's no time to get out of the way. There's no time to prepare a plan. There's no time to turn and run.
What's a person to do in such a situation? Well as any good baseball player would do, you get yourself prepared ahead of time. They know that there will be curve balls. They know they have got to prepare. To practice. To already have a plan in place. If they're prepared they can plant their feet in the right place and their bats are aimed and ready to meet it head on. Because they know it's a promise that one will come their way.
As our pastor showed us on Sunday morning, we have a couple ways we can have peace in the face of these curve balls. We can have peace the way the world gives or we can have peace the way Jesus gives. Hmmm, well it seems it's a no brainer, right?
Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Maybe we need to adjust our focus. The way we've been looking at these curve balls. Maybe that's the first step in which kind of peace we live in?
Let's take a look at our choices. We can A. Buy into the lie the world offers: that peace in your life is equal to no trouble. And respond with paralyzing fear stuck on the teeter totter of anxiety and depression. Ugh!
Or option B. We can approach that curve ball with the peace that Jesus gives. Instead of cowering at that curve ball, we can face it with an attitude of faith. Knowing that the ultimate goal is to glorify God no matter what the curve ball is. And to realize that just because we have a curve ball approaching, we can still be at peace.

God promises peace.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. John 14:27
