Drive-In Date Night

The anticipation leading up to it was the boost I needed to motivate me through the week.  My bottled up feelings of excitement threatened to spill out as each day brought us closer. It's a much needed activity that far too many people don't make a priority. It's benefits are too good to ignore. In fact, I believe it's necessary for a healthy relationship.

DATE NIGHT. Are you married? Do you go on dates? I believe it's extremely necessary & should be top priority in your marriage to schedule regular date nights. How often is debatable. If my advise means anything, I recommend at the very least once a month.  Once a week is the most ideal, but maybe not doable for everyone. Be creative. Spontaneous! Try something new. Just remember, grocery shopping is not a date.

My husband has been watching the Drive In to see what's playing now for several weeks. There was finally going to be something we were interested he asked me on a date :)

It's been several years since I've been to a drive in. In fact, it's been so long that I thought they still used the speakers on the posts that you hung on your car window. Oh brother, you say? And now you're rolling your eyes too? I can't  blame you, if I were in your shoes I'd be doing the same thing!  I can't believe I'm even admitting this.

MRS designs Top ten tips for a Drive In Date Night

Here we go,

My top ten ways to get the most out of a Drive In Date Night

  1. Take a Nap - If possible, take a nap before your date. If you're a night owl, then you can skip this step. If you're not & you're like me please do yourself a favor & take a nap! I'm so glad I did this because I wouldn't have made it past the credits of the first movie. I tend to be pretty tired by the time my week reaches Friday so this was a no brainer for me.
  2. Have some Caffeine - When I woke up from my 3 hour nap {sheepishly blushing} I took a shower. May I talk a little about this for just a moment? Thank you. I encourage you not to skip taking a shower. What better way to make your date feel important than to take good care of yourself? What better feeling is there for you too to be freshened up? Ok back to #2...I then made myself an iced coffee. As you will see in the photo below we recycled a cup we had from dinner the night before to make my lovely caffeine treat in so I could take with me.
  3. Dress Comfy - Even though this is a date dressing up is not required. You can still catch your date's eye while being comfy! Since we were riding in the jeep I wore a hat, comfy jogging pants, a t-shirt & took another button up shirt because I knew I'd get chilled.
  4. Take Cash - It's amazing how many places still don't take a credit/debit card, but they're out there. Especially mom & pop type places like this Drive In. I count myself so truly blessed because I don't ever have to think about it because my husband always has this in mind.
  5. Don't Forget the Bug Spray - Face it, the bugs come out at night. We didn't have much of a problem. Not enough to use the bug spray that we actually did take, but I could see if it had rained recently it being worse. We did enjoy being distracted a little by the lightning bugs that were also putting on a show all around us!
  6. Take Along Drinks & Snacks - We did plenty to drink with us. We heavy water drinkers so we wanted to be prepared. We didn't take snacks because we knew we would enjoy their Funnel Cake Fries & some Popcorn. I'd never heard of or tried Funnel Cake Fries, but they were very delightful for someone who's been trying to watch what she eats.
  7. A Bundle of Blankets & Pillows - We knew we would back the jeep in watch the movie from the back so we took plenty of blankets & pillows to make it more comfy. We propped up the passenger row of seats to have sort of a reclining chair to lean back on. It worked out beautifully.
  8. Folding Chairs - We took chairs because we sat outside until the movie started. We chose to get there & get in line so we could in as soon as they opened which was about an hour and a half or so before the first movie started. This way we had the pick of the spot we wanted which was second row toward the middle.
  9. A Battery Operated Radio - Even though we didn't have one with us I can see why there's advice out there to take a battery operated radio. Since you do listen to the movie through the radio in your vehicle there is a chance that your battery could run down. They do remind you at the intermission to start your vehicles & let them run for about 10 minutes.
  10. Have Fun & Flirt - Yep you heard me right. Flirt with your date. Have fun. Don't talk about work or the kids or the in-laws. Breathe together & enjoy your adventure. Hold hands. Snuggle. This is the one tip that shouldn't be ignored no matter what, when, where, why or how the date is.
